Graham McDonald Dip.Couns (MBACP) Counselling in Banbury, Oxfordshire

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions but please feel free to ask for more information about these or any other questions you may want to ask in the initial call.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends. Most short-term therapy is around 10 sessions, with a minimum of 6 sessions for any meaningful change to occur. Long-term therapy is 10+ sessions. I will work with you to determine what makes the most sense for your particular situation.
Counselling therapy is most effective by a continual committal to attend sessions. We will have regular reviews at 5 week periods where we can assess how things are for you.

How long and how often are the sessions?

The sessions are for 50 minutes and are weekly. But this can be more frequently if you request more and dependant on your needs.

Will the therapist fix me?

Clients are not considered broken. My role is to facilitate a process of change and growth, so I don’t give advice. You have the key to your situation, the therapist’s job is to help you discover it.

What happens in my sessions?

Therapy is a chance for you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in a safe environment. You can decide what you would like to talk about in your sessions, I will be there to listen to you and explore your agenda. We will work together to find tools that will provide you with better ways to cope with your issues.

How do I book my sessions with you?

Our first step will be to arrange an initial phone call which will last for up to 30 minutes. This will give you the chance to give me a brief outline about what has led you to seek counselling, so I can get an idea of what's going on for you.

I can then explain how I will work with you, and also to answer any questions you may want to ask about your counselling sessions.

If we are both happy to proceed we can then arrange your first counselling session.

How do I pay for my sessions?

You can pay either by cash or by electronic bank transfer. All payments must be paid on the day or in advance.
